Eugène Ysaÿe (1858-1931) is acclaimed as one of the greatest violinists and composers since Niccolò Paganini (1782-1840). His six sonatas for solo violin, composed between 1923 and 1924, are highly esteemed classics. These works were inspired by Ysaÿe's profound reaction to hearing violinist Joseph Szigeti perform Bach's six sonatas for solo violin.

Following this, a general introduction to solo violin music is provided, including its history and characteristics.
