Eugène Ysaÿe (1858-1931) is acclaimed as one of the greatest violinists and composers since Niccolò Paganini (1782-1840). His six sonatas for solo violin, composed between 1923 and 1924, are highly esteemed classics. These works were inspired by Ysaÿe's profound reaction to hearing violinist Joseph Szigeti perform Bach's six sonatas for solo violin.
The first chapter of this thesis begins with an overview of Ysaÿe's life, highlighting his achievements and influence on the music world. Following this, a general introduction to solo violin music is provided, including its history and characteristics. The second chapter delves into an in-depth analysis and discussion of Ysaÿe's Sonata No. 2 for solo violin, examining its compositional background, musical structure, and technical aspects. The author shares insights and interpretations based on personal practice and experiences, aiming to further explore the artistic value and expressive techniques of Ysaÿe's works.
Through a detailed study of Ysaÿe's Sonata No. 2 for solo violin, this thesis aims to gain a deeper understanding of his musical style and compositional techniques, and to explore his significant contributions to violin music.
