English has become the most widely spoken language in the world. But our college students seem not competent to use the language. It is therefore necessary to investigate the ways students' acquiring English and to determine the most effective methods of helping them. The study intends to help college students to improve their English competence. The study aims at examining the ways college level students acquire English as a foreign language, at finding out the encountered difficulties in their learning English, especially in listening comprehension, and at perceiving the factors affecting EFL learning effect. It is hoped that the study can inspire EFL teachers with interest, concern, and teaching enthusiasm to further pick efficient EFL teaching material and to further improve teaching strategies of enhancing students' listening comprehension competence. And students, through the findings of the study, can see into their difficulties in EFL learning and, accordingly, take the initiative in EFL learning improvement.
