    Authors: 李天任
    Date: 2009
    Issue Date: 2009-09-07 13:12:27 (UTC+8)
This research is aiming to collect information towards people’s color preferences on indoor and outdoor spaces and related components. Through systematic empirical studies, results of the researches can be derived from statistical data mining processes to form the spatial color preference knowledge bank. In order to provide useful knowledge regarding the spatial color preferences for designers and architects, it is worthy to conduct such a serial research project to find out the practical information for environmental aesthetics reason too. A three-year serial study plan was formed to perform a series of empirical studies from interior to exterior. The first step of the research is to find out what are the preferences towards interior components, second step is to figure out the color preferences towards the appearance of the community and the exterior components of the communities; the third step of the research is to explore the preferences of urban environment with the animated survey material to find out the feasibilities of link with eye-tracking system. On the other hand, the research is going to explore the spatial color preferences from smaller scale to larger scale. The computer generated electronic display survey will be derived through semantic differential techniques within a controlled experiment room. Objects’ color preferences towards components of men-built environment will be questioned individually. Before the formal surveys, a series of pilot studies will be conducted to gain proper procedures as well as content of semantic bi-polar adjective pairs for the survey. A 3D-VR technology will be imported to compare the difference between 2D images and 3D modeling images. On the third year, the research will explore the advanced electronic survey method to apply an 3D animated survey film with the link of .eye-tracking equipment to see whether there are correlational relationships between color preference and eye path. The results of the analysis of the researches will be presented by a series of MDS graphical representations eventually. More studies on cross cultural and geographical comparisons can also be conducted based on the same platform and the SOP of the research. The ultimate goal of these studies is to build up a color preference knowledge database to provide useful information for users who is interested in related field efficiently.
