Mendelssohn(Jakob Ludwig Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, 1809-1847) is one of the most representative composers of the German Romantic School. His family was wealthy, his father Abraham Ernst Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (1776-1835) was a banker, and his mother was a pianist. He did not have many ups and downs in his life. He grew up in a joyful and peaceful environment. Most of his works gave people a sunny and positive impression. He composed countless piano works during his lifetime, among which the eight groups of "Lieder ohne Worte" are the most representative. The author played Mendelssohn’s "Lieder ohne Worte" Op.19 during her master's degree and was deeply touched by its style. There is very little research done on the interpretation of these works in Taiwan, therefore the author hopes to give a better understanding of Mendelssohn’s Op.19 through this research.
This thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, including the research motivation and research method, the second chapter is the background of Mendelssohn's "Lieder ohne Worte" op.19, the third chapter is the musical and interpretational analysis of Opus 19, the Chapter 4 will be the conclusion.
