Purpose: This study aims to explore the effects of different types of jogging shoes (including traditional running shoes and carbon fiber plate running shoes) on the self-efficacy, athletic performance, and psychological feelings of university students during medium and long-distance running. It particularly focuses on whether carbon fiber plate running shoes can improve athletic performance by enhancing self-efficacy. Method: The study adopts an experimental design, with 11 general male students from Chinese Culture University as the subjects. The experiment is conducted in three phases: in the first phase, participants perform a 1600-meter running test wearing regular jogging shoes; in the second phase, they perform the same test wearing carbon fiber plate running shoes; and in the third phase, they perform the test after watching an introduction video about the functions of carbon fiber plate running shoes. In each phase, open-ended questions are used to assess the participants' feelings of self-efficacy and running performance, and a Garmin watch is used to measure heart rate. Data analysis involves using SPSS 25.0 for repeated measures analysis and paired sample t-tests to compare athletic performance and psychological feelings under different conditions. Results: Different running shoes have a significant impact on the participants' running performance and heart rate. In the scenario where participants wore carbon fiber plate running shoes and watched the function introduction video, their 1600-meter running performance was significantly better than in the other two scenarios, indicating that psychological expectations play an important role in athletic performance. However, the different running shoes did not have a significant impact on the participants' perceived self-efficacy, suggesting that the physical characteristics of the shoes have limited influence on exercise confidence, which is more dependent on individual psychological qualities and past experiences. Conclusion: This study suggests that carbon fiber plate running shoes have a potential advantage in enhancing running performance, especially when participants have a full understanding of their functions and develop positive expectations. Although carbon fiber plate running shoes did not significantly enhance the participants' perceived self-efficacy, their effect on improving athletic performance is noteworthy. These findings provide valuable insights for the selection of running shoes and sports psychology training, recommending that future research further explore the relationship between psychological expectations and actual athletic performance, and consider more individual differences and psychological factors affecting athletic performance.
