Composer Chen Yusheng's erhu compositions "Floating" and " Misty Rain Of The Broken Bridge " draw inspiration respectively from the poems "Spring Night Banquet at Peach and Plum Garden Preface" by Li Bai of the Tang Dynasty and "Green Jade Table · Lantern Festival" by Xin Qiji of the Song Dynasty. These pieces diverge from the prevalent trend in contemporary erhu compositions, which often emphasize technical virtuosity. Instead, the composer prioritizes the integration of music and literature, utilizing the unique timbre of the erhu. Both compositions expand on captivating melodies that appeal to a wide audience. "Floating" is a pure expression, with the composer deriving inspiration from the classical poetry of the Tang Dynasty. The piece is created using a prose-like approach, presenting a creative concept that expresses emotions through scenery. "Misty Rain Of The Broken Bridge," on the other hand, innovatively combines narrative melodies with musical emotions through cinematic techniques. In the development of modern erhu performance art, these two compositions guide performers to draw inspiration from the profound meanings of classical poetry, enhancing erhu players' aesthetic and imaginative understanding of both music and literature. The author first collects and compiles information about composer Chen Yusheng's background and educational journey. Through an exploration of the background and thematic content of his erhu compositions "Floating" and " Misty Rain Of The Broken Bridge " the thesis aims to analyze the musical structure and interpretive aspects of the works. This research endeavors to convey the emotions and images envisioned by the composer, providing a foundational reference for future learners performing these two pieces.
