Tian-Hua Liu, as a pioneer influencing the reform of modern Chinese music, achieved remarkable accomplishments in instrument refinement and musical composition. His creation of the "Top Ten Classic Erhu Pieces" profoundly impacted both the performance and composition of the erhu, influencing designated repertoire across universities, secondary schools, music competitions, and assessments in mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
In this regard, the author selected three stylistically diverse works from the top ten pieces: "Groan of Illness," "Elegy," and "Leisurely Recitation," as the subjects of this study. The analysis focuses on the background and thematic content of the compositions, their musical structures, and interpretations involving techniques for both hands. Additionally, through extended exploration, the study explores elements required during performance, such as breath control, relaxation, balance, and the psychological aspects of musical performance, offering new insights and practical applications.
