The purpose of this study is to explore the current situation of the time spent using tablet computers and parenting behaviors among elementary school children in Taipei City, as well as the correlation between time spent using tablet computers and parenting behaviors among elementary school children in Taipei City. This study collects data by means of questionnaire survey, which is carried out in a stratified sampling method. The sampling objects are the total number of registered cram schools in the "Taipei Short-term Tutorial Class Inquiry System" of the cram school information management system of the Taipei City Bureau of Education (2023) as the parent group. The sampling method is stratified by the 12 administrative districts of Taipei City, and the distribution is based on the percentage of registered cram schools in the 12 administrative districts to the total. In this study, 430 formal questionnaires were issued, 402 of which were valid, with an effective rate of 96.40%.
The results of this study, among which the most important finding is that the time spent using tablet computers is related to parenting behaviors, shows that the lower the number of hours used by elementary school children using tablet computers, the more democratically guided parental parenting behaviors; on the contrary, elementary school children The higher the number of hours of tablet computer use, the more parental neglect, indifference and loose comforting behaviors; however, there is no significant correlation between the number of hours of tablet computer use and parental authoritarian behavior among elementary school children. Furthermore, the "frequency of use" of primary school children's use of tablet computers is between "1-2 times" and "3-4 times"; the frequency of use in "holidays" is higher than that in "weekdays". The "usage hours" of primary school children's use of tablet computers ranged from "less than 0.5 hours" to "0.5-1 hour"; the use hours of "holidays" were higher than "weekdays".
Based on the above results, this study puts forward suggestions and provides references for parents and educational institutions. It is suggested that parents should set an example, check the frequency and times of their children’s use, and keep the time of using tablet computers within a reasonable range. It is recommended that school educational institutions can target Elementary school children and their parents hold lectures on relevant information to establish digital usage habits and attitudes, and help parents establish a good parenting style.
