The Macao Office of Mainland Affairs Council, also known as Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Macao (TECO Macao), was renamed and officially unveiled on July 19, 2011, and it is Taiwan’s representative office in Macao. For its left-wing political ideology, Macao is where the Chinese government shows the achievements of its “one country two systems principle”. And people get to know China's attitude toward Taiwan through Macao, too. In addition, the author has worked in Macao for years and gets the first hand observation about the changes of TECO Macao’s functions and roles.
This thesis goes through TECO Macao’s historical evolution, using both the historical research method to know the functions of five different periods of time and the interview method to know if the local senior citizens are aware of TECO Macao’s functions as well. The theories applied are Robert K. Merton’s manifest functions / latent functions and Talcott Parsons’s AGIL paradigm, which stands for Adaptation, Goal-attainment, Integration and Latency. It is hoped that this case study would serve as a reference for TECO Macao’s transformation when needed.
