Table tennis players uses drop shots as receiving techniques. This research used the observational method to investigate whether this becomes the major wining technique of the world class players and whether there exist a sex difference in using this technique. This study recorded all games of the top 8 of 2020 Table tennis World Cup. A self-designed recording table was designed and used to record the receiving technique and for each ball. The wining rate for each technique was defined as the percent of wining points based on a particular receiving technique in a game. The summary statistics such as frequency, percent, and mean were used to summarize the data. The finding of this study are as follow. 1. The highest using frequency and winning rate for the men’s players were the forehand drop shot. 2. The highest forehand using frequency for the female players was the push long, but the highest winning rate was the forehand flip technique. 3. There exist sex difference in the frequency and winning rate of using these techniques regardless of forehand. As for the forehand, female player used the push long more frequently, but the male players liked to use the drop shot. Using the empirical data, there exist gender difference in the frequency and winning rate when using the receiving techniques. The primary winning techniques for the male players were the forehand short shot, while those for the female players were the forehand flip. Thus, coaches should arrange the training courses depending upon the gender of the players.
