這項研究旨在調查澳門 S 酒店(一家在澳門經營的國際酒店)的員工參加英語課程和學習外語的動機;確定促使S酒店的員工學習英語的因素,並確定公司需要在英語培訓課程中包括的重要技能。這項研究的對象是S酒店兩個不同部門的各30名員工。工作中,他們會與酒店客戶產生互動,並不時需要用英語與外國客戶溝通。
本研究採取問卷調查、個案研究及半結構訪談法作為研究方法。研究工具是李克特型量表的問卷,問卷結果統計分析後,輔以個案訪談資料,以利結果之探討與解釋。使用了概率抽樣的採樣方法,避免連續數據同時發生的問題。
研究者將Gardner的「態度/動機測試量表(Attitude / Motivation Test Battery)」中的評分格式改編為五點李克特氐量表。調查結果表明,影響員工英語學習動機的最主要因素是語言能力的自我提高,其次是對英語學習和職業發展的態度。研究顯示「荷官」比「房務員」的學習動機更強。「荷官」比「房務員」更認為學習英語對他們的職業有幫助。
調查結果可以幫助公司改善公司英語培訓課程的規劃和設計,並激勵員工參加該課程,這將長期改善工作績效。對日後類似的研究具有一定的參考和借鑒的意義。培訓是知識 傳遞、技能傳遞、觀念傳遞的管理行為,培訓需要不斷總結,持續改進,才能最大限度的發揮作用。
This study aims to research the employees’ motivation of studying English courses and taking foreign languages in hotel S in Macau (an international hotel operating in Macau) in order to find out the factors that motivate the employees in S hotel to study English and to find out what kind of key skills should be included in the English training courses for the company. This targets of this study are 30 employees from each two different departments. During their work, they always communicate with the customers of the hotel, and sometimes they need to communicate with the customers in English.
The tool of this study is the questionnaire of Likert scale. The study applies a sampling method of probability sampling in case that consist data occurs at the same time. The researcher of the study re-edits the scoring format in Attitude/Motivation Test Battery to five points in Likert scale. The result in the research indicates that the main factors which influence the motivation of the employees to study English is the increase of their own language ability, the following factor is their attitude towards English learning and their vocational development. The study indicates that the studying motivation of the dealers is stronger than that of the housekeepers. More dealers have the idea that learning English can be helpful with their future career.
The results of this study can help the company to improve the planning and design of the English training courses and to encourage the employees to join in the training courses, which will improve the working efficiency for long term. It will also have a referential significance for the following similar studies and researches. A training is an action of management transporting knowledge, skills, or concepts, trainings will only fully functions with continuous conclusion, consistent improvements.
