With the development of modern science and technology, the application of smart devices is becoming more and more popular. Almost everyone can navigate to the destination through GPS. If such a method is applied in an indoor library, it must improve the efficiency of users in finding books. Although most of the libraries have provided the online book-finding system to search the call number and the locations of the books, finding a book in a large library is never an easy job. The application of iBeacon technology is getting popular gradually in recent years, and the cost is reasonable compared with other technologies. Therefore, iBeacon may be helpful that be applied for navigation in the library. In this research, an indoor navigation Application based on iBeacon, named BookFinder, is designed and developed. By means of the indoor maps and built-in iBeacons, the system provides users with a more convenient and efficient way to find books.
In order to understand users’ attitudes, an experiment proceeds in the CCU library. There are 30 subjects invited to find a certain book in the library by means of BookFinder. All subjects are invited to conduct a post-experiment questionnaire survey and interview. The result shows most of the subjects agree BookFinder is useful in finding a book in the library and the Independent Sample T-test also reveals gender is not a significant factor in the study. However, several subjects do suggest that reading a floor plan is an issue that affects the result of "ease of use". Therefore, how to enhance the readability of the floor plan or indoor map might be very helpful for further study.
