Young female bildungsroman is a dominant theme in Katherine Anne Porter's action. In this paper's fiction I intend to explore some of her works - "Virgin Violeta," "Flowering Judas," and Ship of Fools-that deal with females' growing- uP experiences in rigid gender codes. Porter, as a real artist searching for truth, depicts and presents young females' dilemmas. Her young women's desires for authenticity or ration into adult society always come into collision with traditional social expectations. Therefore, the pattern of pain may be used as a proper term for young females' life experience. Porter gives an expression of it in an ironic inversion of humanistic norms by rigid gender codes.
