This goal of the present study is to examine the association between the ridicule styles of high school students and their Parent-Child relationships with the Big-Five Personality Traits as moderator. The study used the convenience sampling method to survey and there were 500 high school students from four high schools around Taiwan to participate in this study, including Taipei Municipal Chong-Cheng Senior High School, New Taipei City Nan Chiang Industrial & Commercial Senior High School, Taoyuan Municipal Nei Li Senior High School and Tainan City Catholic Sheng Kung Girls’ High School. The measurements used were the Traditional Chinese PhoPliKat-45 Questionnaire, the Parent-Child Relationship Scale and the International English Big-Five Mini-Markers of the Traditional Chinese Version. We found that the Katagelasticism ridicule style was negative associated with the relationship between the high school students and their mothers; the openness to experience personality trait of high school students mediated the associations between Katagelasticism ridicule style and the relationships with their fathers; and the neuroticism personality trait of high school students mediated the associations between the Gelotophilia ridicule style and the relationships with their mothers. There was no evidence of Katagelasticism ridicule style of the relationship between the high school students with their fathers. There were also no evidences of Gelotophobia and Gelotophilia ridicule styles on the relationship between the high school students and their parents. Openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeable ,and neuroticism did not mediate the association between the Gelotophobia ridicule styles and Parent-Child relationships. Openness to experience did not mediate the association between the Katagelasticism ridicule style and the relationship with their mother; conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeable, and neuroticism did not mediate the associations between the Katagelasticism ridicule styles and Parent-Child relationships. Neuroticism did not mediate the association between the Gelotophilia ridicule style and the relationships with their father; openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, and agreeable did not mediate the associations between the Gelotophilia ridicule styles and Parent-Child relationships. The theoretical implications of the relevant research results will also be discussed in the text.
