The chapter of ”Biography of Lao Tzu” in the Shih chi (The Grand Records of History) is the main material for the discussion about the life of Lao Tzu. But there are some misinterpretations in this text. Therefore this paper tries to contribute our correction with two following points:1. to describe why the misinterpretations occurred in thecircle of scholars since the Republic of China established. And2. to confirm the original text of the ”Biography of Lai Tzu” of Shih chi. Through this study, we will recover the original version of the text of”Biography of Lao Tzu” and rehabilitate the reputation of the author of Shi Chi.
