    Abstract: 林語堂(1895-1976)以「幽默大師」聞名於世,他在三十年代積極提倡幽默文學與幽默小品文,消極地抵抗當時左翼文壇的扭曲文學與帶有功利色彩的文學。林語堂將文學視為個人思想與生活經驗的反映,以生活即是文學的觀念,藉助文學的力量傳播其思想經驗,實踐於他的創作理念中,不僅淬鍊人們的精神動力,也提升民族社會的進步機制,並樹立人民正確的人生觀與價值觀。林語堂認為文人不應像政客一般結黨營私,公論若成為私器,批評就淪為意氣之爭。林語堂以一己之力,孤軍回應獨霸三十年代文壇的「左聯」組織戰,自有其文學史上的意義與地位。
    Lin Yutang (1895-1976) is famous worldwide for ”Master of Humor”. He positively advocated the humorous literature and essays in the 30s.And he negatively fought against the Leftist's Literary Arena with utility color at that time. Lin Yutang regards literature as the reflection of his personal thought and life experience. ”Life is literature” is his idea. He used his power of literature to spread his thought experience and fulfill his ideal in his productions. Not only he urges people's mental power, but makes progress on national society. Above all, he establishes a correct view of life and values. Lin Yutang used his own power to response alone to the organization battle of ”League of Leftist Writers”. They occupied the literary arena in the 30s. He has his specific meaning and position in the history of literature.
