The microstructure of the Ni47.5Al25Fe27.5 alloy was modified by adding, Cr or Nb to improve its tensile properties. Increasing the Cr content increased the volume fraction of the interdendritic regions and, subsequently, increased the tensile elongation at room temperature. Additionally, adding Nb significantly improved the tensile properties of the Ni47.03Al24.75Fe27.23Nb1 alloy, because the element Nb reduces the number of gamma/beta' interfaces and strengthened both the gamma and beta' phases and the gamma/beta' interfaces. Both the as-annealed Ni47.03Al24.75Fe27.23Cr1 and Ni47.03Al24.75Fe27.23Nb1 alloys exhibited a tensile elongation at room temperature of over 10 pct. However, temperature strongly affected the tensile properties. The brittleness of the Ni47.03Al24.75Fe27.23Nb1 alloy was effectively inhibited because of its lower temperature sensitivity at moderate temperatures.
