This dissertation utilizes the Aarne-Thompson Classification System to obtain folktales recorded during the Ming Dynasty. A total of 227 different types were acquired, of which 54 of them were types that first appeared in China during the Ming Dynasty, in addition to them being international types.
These 54 types are categorized into the following chapters: “Animal Tales”, “Tales of Magic and Religious Tales”, “Romantic Tales and Tales of the Stupid Ogre”, and ”Jokes and Others”. Within the chapters, topics discussed include the folktales’ origins and how it spreads, similar and different versions of the stories, etc.
