The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship and mediating effect of psychological resources, mental health, absence and academic achievement of the university freshmen. The database of 4688 freshmen was provided by a university in Taipei. The instruments used in this study included Psychological Resources Scale, Mental Health Scale, the absent hours of all freshmen, and average academic grade. The data were analyzed by Structural Equation Model. The finding of this study was as follow:
1.Psychological resources of freshmen can directly and negatively predict the mental health of freshmen.
2.Psychological resources of freshmen can directly and positively predict the absence of freshmen.
3.Psychological resources of freshmen can directly and positively predict the academic achievement of freshmen.
4.Absence of freshmen can directly and negatively predict the academic achievement of freshmen.
5.Mental health of freshmen can directly and positively predict the absence of freshmen.
6.Mental health of freshmen cannot directly predict the academic achievement of freshmen.
7.The relationship between psychological resources and absences of freshmen is mediated by freshmen’s mental health.
8.The relationship between psychological resources and academic achievement of freshmen is mediated by absences of freshmen.
9.The relationship between mental health and academic achievement of freshmen is mediated by absences of freshmen.
10.Mental health of freshmen is not the mediator between psychological resources and absences of freshmen.
The findings were discussed, and the recommendations were given in final chapter.
