The Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system has been used to help firms integrate the information flows regarding finance, accounting, manufacturing, and inventory within the organizations, and to facilitate managers’ planning on resource allocation. However, such a system has its disadvantages in terms of slow speed, less flexibility, high maintenance expenses, and user-unfriendliness, which all reduce the benefits that firms can receive from adopting it. Differently, a cloud ERP system operates in a way that firms resort to professional server companies for managing the servers through a system of network. There are two major advantages for firms adopting such a practice, ease-of-use and cost reduction. Although some firms have taken the initiative to use the cloud ERP system, they have not yet found an effective approach to launch the system within their organizations thus far.
This study seeks to offer a useful guideline to firms with respect to a successful adoption of the cloud ERP system. Collecting data through archives of, in-depth interviews with, and surveys on the Rexon Industrial Corporation (a leading power tool manufacturer worldwide), this study found critical determinants that affect significantly whether or not a firm can successfully adopt the cloud ERP service. The findings of this study have important implications for other firms who also consider using the cloud ERP system.
