The purpose of the critical path method is to identify the critical activities in the critical path of an activity network for project management. Project crashing is a method for shortening the project duration by accelerating some of its activities at an additional expense. The objective of crashing is to reduce project duration while minimizing the cost of crashing, which is also known as time-cost tradeoff problem. However, the unknown or vagueness about the time duration for activities has led to the development of fuzzy critical path method and fuzzy time-cost tradeoff problem. In this paper, we propose art approach that combines fuzzy sets with statistics to solve the unknown problems. We introduce a fuzzy time-cost tradeoff problem based on statistical confidence-interval estimates and a distance ranking for fuzzy numbers to derive the level (1 - alpha) of fuzzy, numbers from (1 - alpha) x 100% statistical data confidence-interval estimates. The primary result obtained from this study is a Theorem based on statistical confidence-interval estimates through which the fuzzy critical path and fuzzy time-cost tradeoff problems can be solved efficiently.
