With induction of Taipei Mass Rapid Transit network, Taipei Metro System has been operating for 15 years since Muzha Lin had been put into operation. Accumulated passenger volume of Taipei Metro System has exceeded 4 billion person-times, impact of which to Taipei metropolitan area should be seriously regarded. From previous researches it is found that metro system generates different passenger transportation mode than any other transport behavior ever, reflecting population migration and structural change of the metropolitan population.
However, population migration behavior is differentially correlated to difference of population distribution among areas of the city. Nevertheless, is such correlation related to metro passenger transportation behavior and transportation capacity of each station? And is growth and decline of city population influential to it?
In view of the above, this study works out the topic “Study on Commuting by Metro and Difference in Inhabiting Characteristics of Metropolitan Population-A Case Study on Danshui Line of Taipei Metro”, and aims to figure out whether operation of the metro system has positive meaning to balance development of the areas as well as figure out the model of industrial development of the city and the development of citizen’s inhabiting behavior, by comparing the difference between passenger transportation capacity of each station of the metro system and population data of each area where each station is located, in order to offer feedback as reference for subsequent planning of the metro system.
