The issue of species invasion has been growing concern recently. The objective of this study is to investigate the process and mechanism of species invasion from the point of “spatial pattern”, and also to determine the strategic points and provide the alternatives based on the invaded spatial pattern of Leucaena leucocephala. The study sites are located at Penhu and Henchun area where Leucaena leucocephala has caused the serious impact on these two different terrain sites. Therefore, in addition to analyzing the process and mechanism of species invasion, the invasion difference, spatial pattern types, and the proposed alternatives at these two sites are also evaluated. This study is expected to achieve the goal in two years. The first year aims at the Penhu’s Leucaena leucocephala. The research items include (1) interpreting and generating the spatial distribution map of Leucaena leucocephala, (2) applying landscape indices on the analysis of spatial pattern and landscape change, (3) analyzing the spatial pattern of invasion and dispersal, (4) determining the important strategic points of invasion and dispersal, and (5) proposing alternatives. The second year aims at the Henchuan’s Leucaena leucocephala. The research items are almost similar to the first year. Only one item is enhanced, that is, the result obtained from two research sites will be compared and assessed on the invasion differences and spatial pattern types, and also the proposed alternatives. The expected results from this study are (1) to identify the feasibility of ‘spatial pattern’ concept on monitoring the invasion and dispersal of Leucaena leucocephala, (2) to assess the invasion difference and spatial pattern types between two research sites, (3) to propose feasible alternatives to the related units which have to deal with the issue of invasion and dispersal of Leucaena leucocephalal.
