Recently, due to a rapidly increasing trade intercourse between Taiwan and Mainland China, more and more Taiwanese investors in Mainland China have to face the challenge of different cultures and life styles. Many critical life adjustment issues are emerging today. The purpose of the study was to identify Taiwanese investors' life adjustment and relevant factors including personal and work situational factors. The model of factors having potential influences on the Taiwanese investors' life adjustment was developed.
A reliable and valid self-report questionnaire was used to collect data for this study. The population for this study was the Taiwanese investors in Mainland China's" Sheen-Chen" and "Don-Guan". Purposeful sampling was used to draw sample. 283 enterprisers from Taiwan working in China's "Sheen-Chen" and "Don-Guan" gave the valid responses to the questionnaire. The questionnaire consists of two separate sections:(1)Personal Background Questionnaire(PBQ),and(2)Life Adjustment Scale(LAS).The Statistical Analysis System(SPSS)was used to analyze data. Statistical analyses used in this study included descriptive statistics, chi-square, t-test, analyses of variance, scheffee post-hoc test and multiple regression.
The results of this study were:(1)The life adjustment of Taiwanese investors in Mainland China tended to fine situation.(2)A significant difference existed between life adjustment and "personal background factor", such as: religious belief, family structure, living with spouse, and extramarital sexual relations.(3)A significant difference existed between life adjustment and "working situational factor", such as: income, resident reason, resident term of office, separate time, and sustainability of two-location life.(4) The resident reason of "development of company in the future" can be used to forecast the life adjustment of Taiwanese investors in Mainland China.
The conclusions of these results indicated that personal and work situations are likely to influence Taiwanese Investors' life adjustment. When Taiwanese investors work in Mainland China, they should know the investmental circumstance of Mainland China beforehand; participate in association of Taiwanese investors actively to extend their social intercourse; avoid the extramarital sexual relations, and do maintain normal marital and family relationship.
