The purpose of the study is to analyze on the vegetation in Shih-Ko-Chieh-Shan area. Total of 29 plots, ranging 963-1626 m, along with 6 environmental factors in each plot were sampled for study. Using Detrended Correspondence Analysis (DCA) and Two-Way-Indicator Species Analysis (TWINSPAN), Vegetation in this area could be grouped into 4 types: (1)Elaeocarpus japonicus-Cyclobalanopsis longinux type, (2) Rhododendron formosanum type, (3) Acer albopurpurascens-Carpinus kawakamii type, and (4) Lithocarpus hancei type. Environmental factors like altitude, slope and direct light sky space were the major controlling factors affecting vegetation distribution. Floristic results also showed that 189 vascular species, including 31 Pteridophytes, 137 Dicotyledons, 21 Monocotyledons and 8 rare species were recorded.
