Abstract: As the author of more than 100 books and articles on topics ranging from curriculum and materials development to discourse analysis, as well as a handful of popular textbooks, David Nunan has made his mark upon the field of language education. His accomplishments also include a brief assignment as the president of TESOL, the world's largest professional organization of educators in the field of ESL/EFL, and his current position as Director of the English Centre at the top institution of higher education in Hong Kong-the University of Hong Kong. The authors interviewed Nunan during his brief visit to Taiwan in December 2000, when he spoke candidly on a wide array of topics ranging from the personal influences that shaped his destiny as an educator to the controversial questions of cultural imperialism or racism as a potential problem in the teaching of English as a foreign language.
