The instructor in a language laboratory course confronts the problem of what materials to use. With the introduction in the early 1990s of cable television service in Taiwan and the growing popularity of the Internet, educators now have access to the Cable News Network's (CNN) vast array of the journalistic programming. This paper provides suggestions for instructors interested in using the news organization's programming as supplementary material in the language education classroom. Following a brief synopsis of available programs, this paper discusses the author's success in using a number of techniques to enhance the listening and speaking skills of university students in the language laboratory classroom.
