Hu Shi once made following comment on Wang Kai-Yun: "Wang Kai-Yun was truly a popular poet in his time. In his generation he wrote Xiang-Qi-Lou Poem volume one to six during the chaotic period of Tai-Ping-Tian-Quo (The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, 1851~1864). As we read through the whole book..., occasionally we will find a couple of poem out of nowhere like since it is not under a peaceful environment, I will terminate my travel due to the war. We really can not identify any poem that truly reflect the holocaust in that period. The statement made by Hu Shi on Wang Kai- Yun is not correct. As a matter of fact there are substantial relations between Wan Kai-Yun's poems and the political status in his times. Many articles related to Tai-Ping-Tian-Quo can be seen in his poem collection. Among them "Ai-Jiang-Nan-Fu" is the one which particularly focuses on the war of Tai-Ping-Tian-Quo. This article reveals the attention and sensation by Wan Kai-Yun on the war of Tai-Ping-Tian-Quo through the commentary on the Ai-Jiang-Nan-Fu. This study will firstly investigate the motivation of Wan Kai-Yun's creativities; secondly assess his depiction of the battle and people on the war of Tai-Ping-Tian-Quo during Dao-Quang 30th year (l850) to Xian-Feng 4th year (l854),and thirdly address the sentiment and recollection by Wan Kai-Yun toward the war of Tai-Ping-Tian-Quo. Wan Kai-Yun had personally gone through the battle of Tai-Ping-Tian-Quo. Based on his first hand experience and the application of sincerely affection on addressing this touching article, the value of this performance is truly compatible to the article by Yu-Xin.
