Effects of Intensity of Resistance Exercise on Plasma Adiponectin and Endothelial Function among Obesity Males Abstract Background: Adiponectin is a kind of hormones secreted from adipose tissues, involves in modulating the metabolic functions of carbohydrate, lipid and inflammatory responses. There are closely relationships between adiponectin, obesity and insulin resistance. Obesity people are the potential population of metabolic dysfunction, insulin resistance and endothelial dysfunction. Resistance exercise induces muscle contraction and energy expenditure, and disrupts homeostasis of metabolism, endocrine and cardiovascular function. However, many researchers suggested that long term resistance training would increase arterial stiffness, but resistance training also is a kind of exercise which ACSM suggested. Resistance training also enhance insulin sensitivity and metabolic function, but it is unclear that the effects of acute resistance exercise on arterial stiffness, endocrine, and metabolism. Purpose: To investigate the effects of acute resistance exercise with different intensity on plasma adiponectin, endothelial function and heart rate variability. Methods: This study will recruit 18 obesity males (18-24 yrs). They will proceed acute low (40% 1RM, 12 repetitions, 3 sets, resting 90s between each set), moderate (60% 1RM, 8 repetitions, 3 sets, resting 90s between each set), and high (80% 1RM, 6 repetitions, 3 sets, resting 90s between each set) intensity resistance exercise of equal work, and rest 2 weeks between each exercise trail. The responses of plasma adiponectin and nitric oxide concentrations, insulin resistance, pulse wave velocity (PWV) and ankle-brachial pressure index (ABI) will be analyzed before and after exercise.
