    Title:
    Authors:
    Date: 2009
    Issue Date: 2009-09-07 09:49:08 (UTC+8)
This research project intends to examine the impact upon the scientific research quality of academic collaborations, including international collaboration and domestic collaboration, among 14 major academic institutions. Three fields are studies, including physics, chemistry, and mathematics. The data are taken from the Science Citation Index – Expanded database. The quality of published article is measured by two variables: citations and whether published in cored journals or not. First, we will seek out the networks of international collaboration and domestic collaboration among three fields from the SCI-expanded dataset. Moreover, we will examine the impact of international collaboration and domestic collaboration on research quality. Then, we intend to answer the following questions: (1) whether collaborative research has higher quality; (2) which strategy of collaboration, international collaboration or domestic collaboration, is more effective in terms of upgrading research quality? (3) does the collaborative research with industrial countries produce more citations? (4) can the increasing trend in the international collaborations be attributed to the sharing of resources or equipment? The empirical results will help us understand the impact of academic collaborations upon Taiwan's scientific research quality, by which we can allocate the academic resources more efficiently.
