Abstract
The dissertation is an action study regarding the possibilities of a more independent living for people with autism based on the related theories of advocacy and empowerment. It covers the observations of the autistic about their new living experiences in an institution in a two–stage trial. While the first stage involves certain subjects’ adapting into a new living environment away and different from their home and exploring new experiences in a workplace, the second deals with their professional training. The study tools are my chronological study chart and an observation journal.
The main points found out from the experiment are as follows :
1. The trial-living in an institution catering to their needs helps those with autism gradually adapt into a more independent living.
2. The trial living with proper assistance from an institution helps the autistic take care of themselves and prompt them to take part in leisure activities.
3. Appropriate help is one of the main and basic needs for the autistic in their transit to a more independent living, including job-finding.
4. In the training process of a more independent living for the autistic, proper support from communities can help them develop their job skills and better-equip them for the industrial needs.
