Dr. Aleš Erjavec is currently the research director of Institute of Philosophy, Ljubljana, Slovenia. He is also the former head of International Aesthetics Association, a distinguished author of many books and publications. In this paper, he offers great insight into what he called as "postsocialist art", a product of the clash between postmodernism and postsocialism. Erjavec's observation concludes with the following five features: (a) conceptualism; (b) use of postmodernist techniques and procedures; (c) profuse use of socialist and communist imagery; (d) use of national heritage and of folk, traditional and mass culture; and (e) frequent use of the "binary" artistic approach. This paper provides in-depth arguments based on serious and well-grounded discussions that would lead the readers to a better understanding of the over-used term "postmodern".
