    Abstract: The article discusses the historical trends in human resource issues of hospital nursing in the U.S. History outlines that these issues have not changed in a significant way in the past generation though nursing profession grows and becomes more and more sophisticated. Among the most reported themes in these issues are productivity, work content and flow, and occupational hazards. It notes that human resource strategic management is relevant in delivering high-quality care.
